HFCS Honors Program:

HFCS acknowledges students who achieve honor standing in junior and senior high school at the school celebration in June.

  • Gr. 7-9 students must achieve an average of 80% or higher in Math, ELA, Social, Science and Religion.

  • Gr. 10-12 students must achieve an average of 80% or higher in 4 cores at their grade level (1 each of Math, Science, ELA, Social Studies) and Religion. A Grade 12 student who does not take a 30-level Science in their grade 12 year, may have a 30-level from a previous year or a 20-level Science from the current year included.

  • Academic Distinction is awarded to the top 3 honours marks in grades 7-9 and in grades 10-12. For grade 12 students, this qualification must have a 30-level Science and Math (excluding Math 30-3) included.

LRCSSD Academic Excellence Award

The Division promotes and recognizes the importance of high academic achievement. As such the Division will sponsor annually, an Academic Excellence award to a student in grade twelve in each Division high school who attains the highest average based on the criteria outlined below.

  1. A qualifying student must have attended in the Division for the entire qualifying year.

  2. Each Principal will be responsible for applying the criteria and advising Division Office two (2) weeks in advance of an event at which the award will be presented so that cheques can be prepared. Presentations will be made at the Annual Graduation Ceremony by a Board designate.

  3. The Academic Excellence award recipients will receive a Chromebook (or gift card of equivalent value) and plaque in recognition for their efforts.

  4. The Academic Excellence award will be awarded to a student in each high school based on the highest average utilizing criteria established at the grade twelve level by the Rutherford Scholarship Foundation.

  5. Marks received through challenge exams/tests are not to be included.

  6. Qualifying courses attained through distance education may be included in calculations.

  7. A minimum average of seventy-five percent (75%) is needed to qualify for the above award.

    1. If a student has been academically dishonest* in any one subject, the consequence is that the student may be exempt from academic, athletic and citizenship awards at the school and board level for the current school year. In determining consequences, considerations will include intent, frequency, severity, and restitution.

      *Academic dishonesty is defined as deceitful and/or deceptive attempts to fulfill academic requirements. It can include: plagiarism, cheating, bribery, copying, etc.

LRCSSD Catholic Excellence Awards

The Division promotes and recognizes the importance of Catholic Discipleship, and living as Gospel witnesses. As such the Division will sponsor annually a Catholic Excellence award to a student in each Division school, using the criteria outlined below.

  1. A qualifying student must have attended in the Division for the entire qualifying year.

  2. Each Principal will be responsible for applying the criteria and advising the Division Office two (2) weeks in advance of an event at which the award will be presented so that awards can be prepared.

  3. Award winners will be presented with a Bible and plaque in recognition of their efforts.

  4. The Catholic Excellence award will be awarded to one student in each school who embodies the Division’s Mission and Vision in their daily interactions with others.
